In a hard fought game, Ozark prevailed 4-2 Monday night in a make-up game on the PHS grass field. Brian Otradovec scored both Viking goals on nice assists from Jordan Houseman and Louis Taylor. Parkview’s offense looked strong in the second half with Taylor, Otradovec, Houseman, and Blake White playing up top. Parkview had narrowed the gap to 3-2 late in the second half and seemed to have the momentum, when a catastrophic defensive breakdown put the game out of reach. The Varsity record is now 9-11 with three regular season games to go. The Junior Varsity lost 1-0.
Bombardment 2010: Revenge of the Freshmen

Senior Tyler Farquhar sends a cannon ball flying at sophomore Alex Holden. "I target kids kids who wear glasses," Farquhar said.
The boys partook in the annual ritual of Bombardment yesterday, and much pain and pleasure did they inflict and receive as the hour-and-a-half battle ensued.
The Parkview boys soccer program has played Bombardment for each of the past 11 seasons. It’s a combination of dodgeball, soccer, and American Gladiators.
“Bombardment is not just a game to us; it’s a way of life,” senior captain Jim Smart said. “My sense of morality and social justice was formed by playing this game.”
Senior Night Heartbreaker
On the night where Parkview recognized its senior class of Tanner Bennett, Alex Blanco, Tyler Farquhar, Austin Hess, Jordan Houseman, Jim Smart, and Blake White, the Vikings played a very strong game, but lost 3-2 to Camdenton on a free kick with 30 seconds to go in the game. Blake White and Louis Taylor scored for the Vikings who played with much more heart and energy than they did over the weekend. These seven seniors, six of whom played four years for Coach Nurnberg, will be greatly missed.
JV Tournament Bracket Announced…
REVISED SCHEDULE: The head coaches agreed that only the teams qualifying for the championship will play in the third round of the tournament; therefore, the 3rd place and 5th place matches on the original bracket have been removed. The tournament championship match will still take place 2:30 PM at JFK Stadium.
The Vikings are proud to host the 2010 Parkview JV Tournament Oct 22-23. We view this event as the de-facto regional junior varsity championship for the greater Springfield area, and we hope it remains a staple of the local soccer scene for years to come.
Participating teams include Catholic, Glendale, Kickapoo, Nixa, Ozark and Parkview high schools. The coaches of each program compared their records and results and then voted for each team’s seed in the tournament. Kickapoo was the unanimous choice for first seed.
Friday games will be played at Kickapoo High School, and all Saturday games will be played at Parkview High School.
The bracket can be seen using the link below:
Vikings Salvage Win in Tourney
After being shut out for the second straight game, this time to 1A Greenwood 3-0, the Vikings rebounded for a 6-0 victory against a struggling Republic team playing in their first year of high school soccer. Brian Otradovec had a hat trick, Louis Taylor had a goal and two assists, and T.J. Joy and Tyler Farquhar scored their first goals of the year. Â Blake White and Jim Smart each also had an assist. The Vikings are now 9-9 on the year and 3-3 in conference with five games left before district play begins. Â One of those games should be a win and one will be very tough, with three toss up games. Â Let’s finish strong boys, beginning with the senior night game against Camdenton Tuesday. Â Winning records for the season and in conference are still within reach if you play hard and together.
Vikings Shut Out
Rock Bridge (14-4 and ranked 13th in the state) controlled the game from the beginning, and prevailed 7-0 when the buzzer sounded. Â Parkview’s leading scorer, Brian Otradovec, did not play due to injury, and he was missed up front. Â The Vikings hope to rebound Saturday in an 8:00 a.m. game against Greenwood which lost a close game to Waynesville, 2-1.
Kickapoo Shootout Update
Linked below is our bracket for the Kickapoo tournament this weekend. Our first game versus Rock Bridge will be 6 PM Friday at JFK Stadium. After that, times and locations will vary depending on the outcome of our games from one round to the next.
In the second round, we will play either Waynesville or Greenwood. Both games would be intriguing in their own way. The rematch versus Waynesville would shed light on our biggest concern: consistency. Can we beat a good team twice in the same season? On the other hand, Parkview has not played Greenwood at the varsity level since 2003. Facing the school that is geographically closest to the Parkview campus and eager to collect a win against a class-3 school would make the Greenwood game doubly challenging.
The other half of the bracket includes Carthage, Smith-Cotton, Kearney, and Republic. Parkview will play one of them in the last round of the tournament.
Parkview lost to Carthage, 4-1, in its first game of the season, giving up two goals in the last three minutes of the game. The rematch would allow Parkview to measure growth from earlier in the year.
Parkview last faced Smith-Cotton at the 2007 Helias tournament, with Parkview claiming the 1-0 victory.
Parkview has never played Kearney, although Kearney has participated in the Parkview tournament each of the last four years. Kearney lost  to Carthage , 1-0 in overtime, at this year’s Viking Showdown. The result, however, was controversial. Many observers stated that an apparent Kearney goal in regulation was not awarded after the shot had crossed the goal line but then took a weird ricochet off the wheel of the goal post. The ball bounced back out into the field of play, and the officials declared, “Play on!”
Republic is in its first year of competition, so a match-up with them would also be Parkview’s first in its history.
