Parkview wins @ Carthage; Bus loses on the road

March 29th, 2011 by Coach Nurnberg No comments »

The Parkview varsity girls’ soccer team won, 5-0, at Carthage Friday, getting two goals each from senior Kelsey Loderhose and freshman Emma Chilton. Parkview also earned an own goal in the first half after a dangerous cross played in by Chilton.

The JV team missed numerous chances and had to settle for a 0-0 draw.

The toughest challenge to face the team that day, however, may have been the ride home. Electing to start back home and eat dinner in Mount Vernon, the bus plodded along in usual fashion for almost 15 minutes. Out of nowhere at around 8:40 PM, a cloud of smoke and fumes seeped into the cabin, and the driver noted a sudden peak in engine temperature.

A radiator hose had ruptured, causing a loss of practically all of the bus’s coolant, and the driver had no choice but to pull off on the side of Interstate 44 (roughly at mile marker 82.8). The district bus barn immediately dispatched a driver to retreive and deliver a replacement bus, but that still meant the people on the broken bus would sit there until 11:35 PM, when the replacement finally arrived on the back of a tow truck.

Thank God for cell phones and well-behaved girls on the bus. What could have been torture turned into a fun, if forced, team bonding night.

The girls got home at 12:35 AM.

Mandatory Parent Meeting Thursday

February 28th, 2011 by Coach Nurnberg 1 comment »

Parents, remember that the booster club and I will conduct a mandatory parent meeting 6 PM this Thursday in the school cafeteria.

I have a presentation regarding eligibility requirements and team policies to address, and the booster club will give everyone their options for helping out the program during the season.

Remember that all players must contribute $30 toward the booster club, either through selling enough items in the winter fundraiser or through direct donation to the club. Approximately four girls met the requirements through the fundraiser. THIS CHECK IS MADE OUT TO THE “PHS GIRLS SOCCER BOOSTER CLUB.”

Also, a few players who reserved “PHS” socks still need to pay. Please send the appropriate amount of money ($9 per pair of socks plus $1 for shipping). THIS CHECK IS MADE OUT to “PARKVIEW HIGH SCHOOL.”

J&K Team Night, M.S. Soccer Night, & Girls Stuff

January 28th, 2011 by Coach Nurnberg No comments »

J&K Soccer is hosting a Parkview Team Night Feb. 17. Players will receive a discount on everything in the store, and they talked about free practice shirts or something as well.

Also, here are a couple of reminders:

  • Boys and Girls Middle School Night: I have reserved the conference room at Lake Country for 6:30 PM next Thursday (Feb. 3) for a joint booster club meeting. We need to meet to plan the itinerary for the M.S. soccer night at Parkview Feb. 10. We also need to create slide show/DVD presentation for the evening. Boys’ boosters can discuss the kids’ camp, and girls can plan the spring events calendar and game-day shirt designs. Officers need to give a financial status update.
  • Sock and warm-up order: Girls, I especially need your socks quantity because I have to give J&K a total quantity around Feb. 1 so we have the socks in time for the season. You can pay for them later in February, but please tell me how many socks you want by Tuesday.
  • PHYSICALS? All girls must have an up-to-date parent permission form/doctor’s physical on file by Feb. 25. Doctor’s physicals are still valid if completed on or after Feb. 1, 2010. Otherwise, make arrangements to get the physical before the end of the February. Girls who are not prepared to participate the first day of practice (Feb. 28) will be putting themselves in position to be overlooked for varsity spots and for playing time in general. The form is attached.
  • Activity Fee: All athletes must pay the activity fee to play sports during the school year. The once-a-year fee covers athletes who play multiple sports, so girls who played a fall or winter sport don’t need to pay it again. The fee is $50; students on Free/Reduced Lunch pay $25, and the office can arrange a payment plan if requested. Arrangements to pay the fee must be made before Spring Break.

Take care,

Nurnberg

2011 Warm-ups and Socks Order

Click on the image of the order form to download the actual form.

I need your sock requests ASAP so J&K Soccer can get them ordered—they take 30 days to arrive after we order them, so I need to do this the first week of February.

Jackets and pants will be ordered on February 15. Money should be sent with the order form.

If you buy one of each on this order, you’ll save about $25 compared to retail pricing.

Thanks,

Clint

Do not play this way!

We have two teams, one in the “B” league and the other in the “C” League. Please check the Parkview Soccer web site to see which team you are on, and check the calendar to see your game schedule. You may also see the official schedules on the Lake Country web site.

  • FYI… The “C” team plays its first game Monday, Jan. 17, @ 8:30 PM.
  • There will be NO MAKE-UP GAMES! Lake Country scheduled 210 teams for its two indoor fields, so they have no flexibility to reschedule anything. Therefore, don’t expect LCS to cancel games on bad-weather days. They will try to stay on schedule as much as possible.

Winter Fundraiser

January 5th, 2011 by Coach Nurnberg No comments »

Dear Parkview Soccer followers,

The dreary job of fundraising is upon us, but I think I’ve found a reasonable product for us to sell that we and others may actually get our money’s worth from using.

We are selling Parkview fan items and apparel through a catalogue company out of Texas (fancloth.com). Take a look at the Parkview catalogue by clicking here or on the embedded photo in this post.

I gave the catalogue to a few girls before the winter break.  While only three girls have returned order forms so far, many of the folks who have already purchased items were especially drawn to the blanket, and the shirts and hoodies have been well received as well.

Have checks made out to “Parkview High School” with either “Boys Soccer Fundraiser” or “Girls Soccer Fundraiser” in the memo. That way boys and girls players can make sales. I’ll keep track of the money that goes toward each separate program. Here is a PDF version of the order form.

Click on the image above to open the PDF file for the order form.

So, please consider purchasing an item or two, and email this post to all of your Parkview-connected friends and family. I’d like to submit our order to the company by January 18 or so, so that gives everyone two weeks or so to collect and deliver payments to me. Yes, please collect the money up front.

Offseason & Girls’ Indoor News

December 7th, 2010 by Coach Nurnberg No comments »

Off-season Info

Off-season workouts for boys and girls have begun, with more than 35 players in attendance at each of the first week’s sessions.

We meet 3 to 4:15 PM mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. In January, girls who want to take advantage of the weight room should plan on being picked up at 5:00 PM. Check the calendar for specific dates because certain Tuesday practices will shift to Mondays when the district has scheduled students for early-release days.

We will meet outside at JFK Stadium any day the wind chills are around 40 degrees or higher. On colder days, we will make do with what space we can find inside the school. Players should bring both sets of clothing with them to school just in case.

The program is designed to start off lightly and build in intensity as we draw nearer to the start of the season in late-February, so out-of-shape players should not plan on showing up at the last minute. By mid-February, the girls will be running the equivolent of two to three miles in a cross-training format, and invidual technique will be incorporated into every session (dribbling, passing, receiving).

Girls’ Indoor Info

Money for indoor soccer is due to Coach Nurnberg by Dec. 22. I can also make arrangements to meet with players Dec. 27-29 who will have their money sometime after the vacation has begun.

The fee is $70. The majority of the fee will be used to pay the league entry fee ($585 per team). Any leftover funds will be left in the girls soccer account at school. Doing the math, one finds that the per-player fee on a nine-player roster is $65; on a 10-player roster, the fee is $58.50; on an eight-player roster, it’s $73.50. Rosters will be capped at around nine or 10 players to ensure ample playing time.

WE WILL NOT BUY T-SHIRTS THIS YEAR. Players can agree to buy whatever shirts they like, or just agree to wear like-colors to all the games.

Girls who do not pay by Dec. 29 will not be included on any roster. Girls who sign up later than the rest may not be able to be placed on a roster (so don’t procrastinate).
