Vikings Beat Central, Rain.

Doing their best to battle both Central and the oncoming storm, the Parkview Varsity squad beat Central High School 4-1. Senior striker Emmy Dale got a hat-trick in the match, and sophomore Jessica Maerz also finished one. The first goal of the match found freshman Kelsey Loderhose holding the ball deep inside the penalty area with a defender blanketing her. Loderhose was able to drop ball back to Dale for the well placed finish, making the score 1-0. The second Parkview goal came from sophomore midfielder Jessica Maerz, who finished a nicely placed shot into the back of the net. Later in the match, Loderhose again found Dale on the run for her second finish to make the score 3-0. Dale would score again to complete the hat-trick (assist by Stephanie Laney, senior). Senior defender Rebecca Carter scored for Central on a set piece from approximately 35 yards from the goal. The match was delayed with 10 minutes left in regulation due to lighting, but both teams took the field and were able to finish all 80 minutes of play. Parkview’s Varsity squad is now 2-0 on the young season.

The scheduled Junior Varsity match did not happen, as the head coaches from both sides agreed that the oncoming storm would not allow the game to be played. The JV game is supposed to be rescheduled, but no date has been set yet.

Parkview’s Junior Varsity next plays Saturday March 29, at 9:00 a.m. as a part of the Ozark JV tournament, with another game to follow later in the day (the time of the second game will correlate with the outcome of the first game).

Both squads will also face Rolla on Tuesday at 5:00p.m. at home on the JFK field (JV first, Varsity to follow).

Parkview Tops Nixa In Opener

The PHS varsity faced off against a tough Nixa squad on Tuesday, opening up the season with a 2-0 win. Time of possession was equal in this match-up between the two district opponents, but the Lady Vikings were able to capitalize on their opportunities, thanks in a large part to strong finishing by freshman striker Kelsey Loderhose. The first goal saw senior Kristine Malter send a ball past the defense to Loderhose for a quick finish and a 1-0 lead. In the second half Loderhose dribbled the ball up the left side of the field, beat a defender one on one, and finished again into the side netting. Sophomore goalkeeper Caylin Manary got the shutout.

In the match-up of JV squads, Nixa prevailed 1-0. The Nixa goal was scored in the first half by a forward who snuck the ball past freshman goalkeeper Sydnie Pilkinton. The match was quite even, as both teams were able to move the ball up and down the field, but neither team was able to finish any more chances. The Vikings showed the ability to attack from corner kicks, as freshman Katie Fortney put a ball just wide of the net fresh off a short corner. Freshman Molly Robb also showed off her speed as she attacked on a breakaway after taking the ball from a Nixa defender, but she too put the ball wide-right.

Upcoming Season Information from the Booster Club

PHS Boys Soccer Booster Club Newsletter
January 2008

It might be cold outside, but it’s already time to think about 2008 PHS BOYS SOCCER! Coach Nurnberg has asked me to pass on several items that will be coming up in the near future – he has a short meeting scheduled today after school with the boys, but we would like to provide the parents with the information also “just in case it doesn’t get home”!

• Off-Season Conditioning – Now that the second semester is off the ground, coach Nurnberg would like to encourage players to attend conditioning practices on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Sessions start at 3:10 PM and conclude by 4:30 PM. These sessions are optional but strongly encouraged. Players will complete upper- and lower-body workouts in the weight room, follow a running regimen, and develop technical soccer skills through individual and small-group drills.
• Spring Outdoor/Summer Outdoor League – Coach would like to get a team together to play in the spring league at Lake Country, if we could get a parent to coordinate the putting the team together for those wanting to play we would appreciate it. A team of 16 is desired the cost will be approximately $60-$65 per player. Please contact coach for more information at jnurnberg@spsmail.org or 523-9455

• Missouri State Soccer Camp (July 22-25, 2008) Please let Coach Nurnberg know ASAP if your son is OR is not planning to attend he would like to have two teams this year at camp and use this as a great start to the 2008 season – you can find more information at www.msusoccer.com the fee is $295 for commuter.
o From Coach “Team camp has been a huge asset in our preparations the past four years, correlating strongly with our run of district final appearances. The fact that we only took one team last summer (essentially leaving out many JV players) is worth noting; the JV team demonstrated the same successful trend as the varsity team the years they attended team camp. Nothing is more informative for our team’s tactical development, or our players’ fitness levels, than playing competitive matches against other schools prior to the start of the season. We get at least four extra games to iron out our line-up and to start building up our chemistry, but we can only do that if players make it a priority.
I would like to encourage EVERY boy in our program to attend so I can register us for two teams. To help me determine the number of boys who intend to participate, I would like parents to notify me of their plans that week as soon as possible. Parents should indicate either “Plans to attend” or “Plans NOT to attend”. My email is: jnurnberg@spsmail.org – Parents can also call my classroom at 523-9455.

• Kid’s Camp to be held August 4th – 6th, 2008 – Please put this date on your calendar, this is a VERY important fundraiser for our program and we need everyone’s help to make this successful. We did not have the attendance that we normally have last year and as a result do not have the same “cushion” to provide for our season needs this upcoming year. We will be getting an email together soon that we hope you will send out to every Pre-K thru 8th grade student that you know to “hold the date” and attend our camp. The success of this camp determines the need for additional fundraisers and also determine the trips and what extras we can provide for our players (hotel rooms, special trips, Gatorade, bus food, warm ups for new players, trophies, senior plaques, etc.)

• Official High School Practice will begin on Monday, August 11, 2008
• Springfield Public Schools 1st Day of School starts Monday, August 25, 2008
• 1st game will be sometime during the week of September 2, 2008.

If you know of any incoming 2008 freshman that will be playing in the fall, please provide the parents with our email address so we can add them to our newsletter distribution list.

The PHS Boys Booster Club will begin having meetings in April to plan for the upcoming season, please plan to attend!
