Girls Soccer Kicking Off

February 15th, 2009 by Florez 1 comment »

The Parkview Girls soccer season is coming up, and there are some key dates to note. The first practice of the season will be Monday, March 2nd. The first game of the season will be on Friday, March 27, at Carthage. (Yes, this is the last day of Spring Break. Get over it.)

The Vikings return 8 of 11 starters after losing 6 seniors from the 2008 varsity roster. One of the key returners for Parkview is Junior midfielder Jessica Maerz. Maerz has accumulated 27 goals and 5 assists (59 points) between her freshmen and sophomore years for the Vikings, and was named along with sophomore Shelby Stewart to the All-Region team as Honorable Mentions (both were also All-District and All-Conference 1st Team). Keeper Caylin Manary returns as a Junior for her third straight season as the varsity starting keeper (voted MVP by her teammates last year). Manary has played in the goal for 41 of the last 43 matches for the Vikings, and had a goals against average of 1.86 last year.

Last year’s freshmen class was strong, and two keys from that list for the Vikings are SGF All Freshmen Squad players Kelsey Loderhose (also an All Conference Honorable Mention) and McKenzie Payton. Parkview had four freshmen play consistent varsity minutes last year, and has a very strong sophomore class this year that will continue to contribute to the varsity squad.

Many other important players were obviously left off this list, as the Vikings had their highest amount of wins in recent history, going 11-10 and making to the second round the districts.

Girls Soccer Reminders

January 8th, 2009 by Florez No comments »

Indoor Soccer at Parkview – Remember that the gym is open from 5:30-7 PM on certain Sundays throughout the winter for “open scrimmaging.” It’s free and it’s fun. The next PHS Indoor Soccer opportunities are 2/1/09 and 2/15/09.

Off-season Conditioning – M/W/F from 3:00-4:45. Turnout has been good so far. Still, there are a lot of faces we’re not seeing. Consistent attendance will not only help you be ready for the demands of the season, but will help our team maximize our success when the time finally comes.

Doctor’s Physical / Parent Permission Form – Remember that you must have an up-to-date sports physical and parents’ permission form on file with the school. Any paperwork on file is only valid if you had your physical on or after July 1, 2008. Otherwise, you must have a new physical before you can participate in official practices and games, which begin March 1. Get your physical scheduled, completed, and turned into me before March 1st!

If you have ANY questions (soccer, love, the meaning of life, etc.), check the offseason schedule, the season schedule, or contact coach Nurnberg.
