Vikings Sweep Hillcrest

Both Parview teams earned their first wins of the season Tuesday at city rival Hillcrest.  In a game not as close as the score indicated, the varsity Vikings prevailed 1-0 on a penalty kick by Brian Otradovec at the 50 minute mark.  The score was set up by an agressive move by freshman Louis Taylor who was taken down inside the box.  Welcome to the team Louis!  Parkview had many chances for additional goals in the second half including a shot off the post by Otradovec that would have put the game away. This was Otradovec’s third goal of the season. The junior varsity squad prevailed by the score of 3-2.

Vikings Give up Late Goal to Lose in Jeff City

In a much improved performance from the Carthage game, the Viking lost to Jefferson City 2-1 on Friday evening in the state’s capital.  Jeff City scored a goal less than two minutes into the game, but the Vikings fought back hard to tie the score with less than a minute before intermission.  Brian Otradovec scored his second goal of the season although at least six Vikings players contributed to this score.  At half the game was tied 1-1.  It stayed that way until four minutes left in the game when Jeff City scored off a corner kick to make the final score 2-1.  Evin Barber played an exceptionally good game, making multiple saves to keep Parkview in the contest.  Fans and players left this game encouraged that good things are ahead for the Vikings this year as they gain more game experience.  The junior varsity also fell to 0-2 on the season.  As an aside, former Governor Bob Holden was in the stands Friday night as his son plays for Jeff City.  It was a great atmosphere as 100 plus rowdy JC fans were present to support the home team.  Lets do the same thing this week for our guys.

Vikings Fall in Home Opener to Carthage

Brian Otradovec gave the Vikings an early 1-0 lead in the Vikings’ first game of the season, but Carthage came back to tie the score before half time.  The Vikings had few second half scoring chances as Carthage dominated possession in the second half in 96 degree heat.   Carthage scored early in the second half, then Carthage got a break when Jordan Houseman  was injured.  Instead of kicking the ball out of bounds, Carthage continued to play and scored its third goal while Parkview was one man down.  Another late goal made the final score 4-1, although the game was closer than the score indicated.  Carthage also prevailed in the junior varsity game.

2010 Alumni Game Provides More Questions Than Answers

Junior Evin Barber stops a shot by alumnus Will Lampe.

Hearts were moved, tears were shed, and stomachs were turned. Ah, the tradition of alumni soccer continued once again at the Parkview soccer field Thursday night.

Fifteen Parkview alumni soccer players took part in the charity event, designed to raise money for coach Nurnberg’s pet philanthropy: snails that have no shells.

“I think it’s sad that people look down on so-called ‘slugs,’” Nurnberg said. “Put a shiny shell on the little guys, and man… suddenly they’re cute!”

A little less than $1 was raised.

Alumnus Matt Medley discovered Big Foot living in the woods behind the home team's bench. "I love nature," Medley said.

August 11th, 2010 by Coach Nurnberg No comments »

The boys’ booster club will throw the preseason picnic 6 PM August 26 (Thursday) in the Parkview cafeteria.

Players from each grade bring a specific type of food or drink item. The items include fried chicken, desserts, paper plates/napkins, and side dishes (?). The booster club will decide which item to assign each class, and then we’ll communicate that to the players and parents.

Mark the date now, and be prepared to bring your item to the feast.
