Girls Soccer: First Day Reminders

Dear girls’ soccer player,
First day of practice is MONDAY!!! Take note of the issues below:
1. The WEATHER Monday looks challenging; however, WE WILL GO OUTSIDE all week unless
a. The threat of lightning exists, or
b. Snow is accumulating on the ground.
2. So, BRING APPROPRIATE CLOTHING.
a. If we’re outside: cleats, shin guards, warm-up pants, jackets (not coats), gloves, ear muffs or hats. Be sure to dress safely but athletically. We will practice in light rain. We will be on the track for the first 15 minutes the first day, so you can run in flats during this time if you prefer.
b. If inside: tennis shoes or indoors, shin guards, shorts, and t-shirts.
3. PAPERWORK. You can’t practice without a fully completed Doctor’s Physical/Parent Permission Form. Check for
a. Signatures in ALL fields from the doctor (one signature), your parent (three signatures), and YOU (three signatures).
b. Medical Insurance Company and POLICY NUMBER.
Be out at the soccer field by 3:15 PM Monday so we can take care of check-in stuff before practice actually begins.

Mandatory Girls’ Soccer Parent Meeting, Feb. 19 @ 6 PM

Players and parents,

Please make plans to attend our mandatory preseason parent meeting 6 PM next Tuesday (Feb. 19) in the school library. The back-up location is my classroom, Room 233, if the library becomes unavailable at that time.

My portion of the meeting should last no more than 20 minutes. The booster club also has pertinent information to share prior to the arrival of the season.

Boys Senior All-Star Game Selections Announced

Only 42 players were selected out of a pool of 87 nominations.

Girls’ Off-season & Spring Info

Off-season conditioning…

will take place 3-4:30 PM on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, beginning Dec. 4. We will meet any day that school is in session. Meet near the girls’ locker room each day by 3 PM. Plan on going outside for the running activities, so dress appropriately (warm-ups, pants, tennis shoes, etc…).

i. Tuesdays – distance run

ii. Wednesdays & Fridays – Strength training and Sprint Workouts

Practice & Game Schedules; Spring Break

i. First Official Practice: Feb. 25, 2013.

ii. Spring Break Implications – Spring break eats up our third week of preseason this year. Therefore, we have decided to practice through spring break, doing two-a-days that Monday through Thursday. We will schedule some “fun time” on one or two of the afternoons.

iii. Practice Schedule – Go to http://soccerphs/parkview-soccer-calendar/ to access the practice schedule between now and spring break.

iv. Game Schedule – You will also find a link there to PDF file with the current game schedule. The game schedule is STILL changing, so check it again prior to the start of the spring season.

Mandatory Paperwork

The following forms must be completed before players can participate in official spring practices:

i. MSHSAA Doctor’s Physical & Parent Permission Form. Please schedule your physical now and turn in the form as soon as it is completed. Fall and winter athletes who already turned in a physical form to the office this school year do not need to get a new physical.

ii. Citizenship Card. Go to pages 72-73 of the SPS Student Handbook.

iii. Concussion Form. Sign the first page and turn in with your physical.

iv. Activity Fee. Athletes pay a $50 activity fee once a school year. Students who qualify for Free/Reduced Lunch pay a $25 fee. Athletes who paid for a fall or winter sport do not need to pay again this school year; all other soccer players must pay the fee before the first game.

The 2012 Parkview JV Tournament will take place Oct. 19 & 20, with games played at Parkview and Kickapoo high schools.

Here are the Friday results:

5:00 PM @ Kickapoo Soccer Field – Nixa 8, Fair Grove 0

Kids’ Camp Weather Update

Dear parents,

As of 5:30 PM, Springfield is still experiencing thunderstorm activity. Therefore:

The weather conditions are unsafe for camp to proceed tonight, so we will conduct the make-up session this Saturday, 9-11 AM.

2012 Fall Soccer Topics

Dear players and parents,

Please take note of the following topics of interest as the fall season approaches:

Paperwork - all players must turn in the following forms:

Doctor’s Physical/Parent Permission Form (downloable by clicking here and which requires MULTIPLE SIGNATURES from the player and the parent, as well as INSURANCE COMPANY & POLICY NUMBER);
Citizenship Card (which can be found on pages 72-73 of the SPS Student Handbook or can be picked up at the school office);
Concussion Awareness Form;
and payment of the district’s $50 athletic fee.

Players cannot participate until they have taken care of each item above. Paperwork should be ready to turn in to Coach Nurnberg by the first day of practice, August 6.

Practice Schedule Modifications!

Due a change in MSHSAA rules about the use of two-a-day practices, the PHS boys preseason practice schedule is being modifed. Please look at the schedule on this website’s team calendar. Bottom line: we now will run one practice each morning from 7:30-10:30 AM August 6-10.

Players should still arrive to the field earlier than 7:30 AM so they are ready to begin on time.

Boys’ Parent Meeting: 6 PM on Aug. 5

I am holding the boys’ soccer parent meeting 6 PM Sunday, Aug. 5, at the Parkview Soccer Field. We will plan for the kids’ camp and cover the school and team policies regarding eligibility requirements for participation.

Players should be present for the meeting.
