All players and parents are welcome to attend our fishing trip to Lake Taneycomo Nov. 20.

We will meet in the Grant Street parking lot at 11 AM and leave by 11:15 AM. Participants are encouraged to carpool; there will not be a bus. We should be on the water from 12:30-3:30 PM and return home by 4:30 PM or so.

I am pleased to announce that Lilley’s Landing Resort in Branson has very generously offered us use of their dock and three or four pontoon boats for our outing! We are asked only to cover the cost of fuel for the boats. They operate a full-service fly and tackle shop, so you will be able to purchase your license and tackle there when we arrive.

Here is a checklist of reminders to do before the trip:

Obtain a valid Missouri state fishing license.

Purchase appropriate bait and tackle. Night crawlers and Power Bait are good choices for bait fishermen. Small treble hooks with springs around the shanks are good for Power Bait.

Bring money and food.

Dress appropriately. It likely will be chilly.

Tight lines,

Nurnberg

Players will receive a discount on everything in the store, and they talked about free practice shirts or something as well.

Also, here are a couple of reminders:

Boys and Girls Middle School Night: I have reserved the conference room at Lake Country for 6:30 PM next Thursday (Feb. 3) for a joint booster club meeting. We need to meet to plan the itinerary for the M.S. soccer night at Parkview Feb. 10. We also need to create slide show/DVD presentation for the evening. Boys’ boosters can discuss the kids’ camp, and girls can plan the spring events calendar and game-day shirt designs. Officers need to give a financial status update.

Sock and warm-up order: Girls, I especially need your socks quantity because I have to give J&K a total quantity around Feb. 1 so we have the socks in time for the season. You can pay for them later in February, but please tell me how many socks you want by Tuesday.

PHYSICALS? All girls must have an up-to-date parent permission form/doctor’s physical on file by Feb. 25. Doctor’s physicals are still valid if completed on or after Feb. 1, 2010. Otherwise, make arrangements to get the physical before the end of the February. Girls who are not prepared to participate the first day of practice (Feb. 28) will be putting themselves in position to be overlooked for varsity spots and for playing time in general. The form is attached.

Activity Fee: All athletes must pay the activity fee to play sports during the school year. The once-a-year fee covers athletes who play multiple sports, so girls who played a fall or winter sport don’t need to pay it again. The fee is $50; students on Free/Reduced Lunch pay $25, and the office can arrange a payment plan if requested. Arrangements to pay the fee must be made before Spring Break.

Take care,

Nurnberg

We’ve been involved in Parkview soccer now for seven consecutive years and have always been strongly supportive of players and coaches. We’ve seen the program win the conference but recently suffer through two losing seasons in a row. We’ve seen both our kids enjoy the sport and grow as athletes and people. While I’m concerned that the program may be heading in the wrong direction, I believe it can be turned around. Seven of the 12 players who played their hearts out against Ozark return next year including an outstanding goal keeper and the leading scorer. More will be required to bring home a winning record; however. Coaches, students and parents need to work hard to improve. I think that includes playing all year, summer camp, conditioning harder (yes–running a lot!), and making next year’s team a number one priority above other activities by all parties. Doing those things can bring the Vikings back to relevance. Good luck next year–we’ll still be rooting for you–but Gail will no longer be running concessions–ha!

Joy, Shane Maloney, Jim Smart, Alex Blanco, Louis Taylor, Blake White, Jordan Houseman, and Brian Otradovec. Nice job, men!

Parkview closed out the regular season with a 4-2 victory on the road in Neosho Tuesday night. Jordan Houseman started the scoring on a nice assist from Brian Otradovec. The second goal came on a corner kick from Blake White to Aiden Griffin, his first varsity goal! The game seemed well in hand, but Neosho narrowed the lead to 2-1 before half-time, and then scored the first goal of the second half to knot the game at 2-2. Parkview then upped the intensity for the remaining 20 minutes of the game, dominating possession and getting two late goals, one from Otradovec and one from Houseman with 2:43 left to seal the victory. This win left the Vikings with a regular season record of 11-12, which is two more wins than was achieved last year. The junior varsity squad tied Neosho 1-1. Alex Holden scored for the Vikings who gave up a late goal after leaving two of their opponent’s players uncovered in front of the goal. The next game for the Varsity is Saturday night at Cooper where the Vikings are paired against Ozark in the first round of district play. Go Vikings–leave it all on the field and bring home a win.

In what was surely the low point of the Nurnberg era at Parkview, Glendale skunked the Vikings 10-0 on their home field. Despite the final score, the Vikings played with heart the entire game. Down 9-0 with 23 minutes left in the second half, the Vikings played a solid 20 minutes before surrendering the final goal. Your fans and families are proud of that effort. The junior varsity fared somewhat better, losing 2-1 on a late second half goal. Tyler Farquhar had the lone Parkview score on a nice assist from Ben Choats.

Shane Maloney had a very strong game on defense after getting the starting nod from Coach Nurnberg. The Vikings are now 10-11 with an important game at Glendale on Thursday night.

Brian Otradovec scored both Viking goals on nice assists from Jordan Houseman and Louis Taylor. Parkview’s offense looked strong in the second half with Taylor, Otradovec, Houseman, and Blake White playing up top. Parkview had narrowed the gap to 3-2 late in the second half and seemed to have the momentum, when a catastrophic defensive breakdown put the game out of reach. The Varsity record is now 9-11 with three regular season games to go. The Junior Varsity lost 1-0.
