Fall Game Dates Announced

The boys’ fall schedule is loaded on the calendar.

Bear in mind that the kick-off times for home games might be subject to some change [I've put in what I believe and hope will be the kick-off times, but I won't know about JFK availability until I hear from Mr. Tipton (band) and Mr. Shaffer (building AD)].

PHS Kids Camp A Success

The Annual PHS Kids Camp was all fun and games this week, and a great success for Parkview and for the local soccer community. We had 67 kids show up to play soccer and learn from our PHS players and coaching staff. Thanks to those who helped out with the camp, and also to all who attended. Hope to see you all again next year!

What? PHS Soccer Kids’ Camp
Why? A great chance to learn from and practice with PHS players and coaches!
When? August 3-5, 6:00-8:00 PM
Who? Pre-K through 8th Grade (sign up as an individual or team)
How much? $35 per player

If you did not sign your kid up in advance, don’t worry about it. All you need to do is show up with your kid, a soccer ball (if possible), a water bottle (if you have one), and a check. If you didn’t pre-register then show up any time between 5:30 and 6:00pm and just register at the tables when you get there.

ATTENTION BOOSTER CLUB [AND THOSE WHO WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN HELPING OUR PROGRAM]!!! I HAVE A SIGN UP SHEET FOR OUR NEXT 6 HOME GAMES FOR THE SCORE BOARD AND PRE GAME PLAYER ROSTER ANNOUNCEMENT. CHRIS LODERHOSE HAS VOLUNTEERED TO PROVIDE US WITH HIS SERVICES FOR OUR GAME ON THURSDAY AGAINST LEBANON. HIS SON, COLLIN, IS PLANNING ON PERFORMING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM PRE GAME.

Boys Soccer Banquet

Remember the Fall soccer season? Me neither. We have set a date for the banquet though: January 30, 2009.

…Our soccer banquet will be January 30 at 6:00 at First Baptist Church at South and Mt. Vernon.

Players, please bring CLEAN backpacks and CLEAN uniforms to the banquet that night. The cost is $5.00 a person and seniors and coaches eat free. Please RSVP with Gail Smart asap (869-2536).

Girls
—Indoor Soccer at Lake Country – If you know you’re playing, bring me a check for $65 ASAP. I have to pay a $300 deposit for each team by Dec. 29th. Therefore, I need money to reserve your spots in the leagues. People can still sign up after the holiday break, but the number of teams will be set in stone by the 29th, so try to do this before the break. I can only sign up as many teams as I have enough money to cover the league fees ($565 per team). At $65 per person, that would mean a minimum of 9 players per roster. More than 30 hands rose when I asked who wanted to play indoor, which suggests that we should have three teams; as of right now, however, only two girls have turned in their money. Also, someone’s parent has to sign on as the “coach” for each team we sign up. Let’s get on it, please.
—Indoor Soccer at Parkview – Remember that I will open the gym from 5:30-7 PM on certain Sundays throughout the winter for open scrimmaging. This Sunday (12/14/08) will be the first session. Please make the effort to attend. The next sessions are 12/28/08 (yes, during the break) and 1/11/09. They’re going to be FUN and FREE!
—Off-season Conditioning – Turnout has been good the first couple of weeks. We’ve averaged about 18 girls per session. Still, there are a lot of faces I’m not seeing. Remember that your opponents at competing schools are preparing vigorously for the upcoming season. Are you going to be ready, or are you going to be a practice cone for the opposition to dribble around? Our workouts start out light and get progressively more difficult as we approach the season, we’ve already doubled the intensity of the workouts from last week. Consistent attendance will not only help you be ready for the demands of the season, but will help our team maximize our success when the time finally comes.
—Doctor’s Physical / Parent Permission Form – Girls, remember that you must have an up-to-date sports physical and parents’ permission form on file with the school. Any paperwork on file is only valid if you had your physical on or after July 1, 2008. Otherwise, you must have a new physical before you can participate in official practices and games, which begin March 1. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE!!! Get your physical scheduled, completed, and turned into me before March 1st!!!
—Fundraisers – I have to get this approved, but I would like to try and do a girls’ soccer clinic in the early spring as our primary fundraiser. We’ll have to discuss when and where we do it, how much we ought to charge, and what kids will get for their money. Nevertheless, please start thinking of young girls you can invite to attend. I’m going to put out the expectation that each high school player must recruit at least one attendee, and I’d like everyone to try and get two or three. We’ll probably keep the cost in the range of $15-$20. We also have to work the concessions stand on 12/18/08, and I need two more workers to help with that.

We will collect money at the door for the number of reservations you indicated. The cost is $5.00 per person (*Senior players are free!). You will need to bring your CLEAN uniform and bag to be turned in (all pieces that were handed out at the beginning of the season) in order to receive a ticket for the door prize.

It has been hard getting a date set with everyones schedule – however, we have found a date that works for the coach, the seniors and most of the senior parents and officers – I know we are almost a month past the end of the season, and I apologize but at this time we are going to set the banquet for Thursday, December 18th at 6:30, once the location is confirmed all details will be sent later this week but no later then Friday.

Tuesday: Senior Night

Come celebrate senior night with the Vikings’ 10 seniors and their families: Leland Eckstam, Rudy Fotsch, Tim Griffin, Justin Hansen, Morgen Holt, Trey Kalbaugh, Kyle Kutz, Vance Marlow, Matt Medley, and Darren Shaw. The Tuesday night match against Carthage will be played at JFK, with the JV playing first at 5:30 p.m. and the Varsity squad to follow around 6:45 p.m. Be at the game by 6:30 p.m. so you don’t miss the recognition of each of our seniors (to take place from approximately 6:45 p.m.-7:00 p.m.).

Tim Griffin now stands one goal away from tying Patrick Carver for the all time career goal and point lead, two goals away from holding the record himself. Come out and cheer Tim and the Vikings on in their last two regular season games. The Vikings are 16-6 following incredible years of 17-7-1 and 17-7 with two games left in the regular season.

This match also marks the last JV match of the season. The JV is currently 8-5-3, and look to pick up their 9th win of the season in the finale.

Booster Club Letter #2

We have a couple of important things coming up next week: (REMEMBER TO RECRUIT CAMPERS! – let me know if you need the form emailed to you again – kids can also register the night of camp – ages are Pre-K thru 8th grade).

July 28-31 – Drury Team Camp (for those that have registered)

August 3rd @ 6:30 to 7:30 – Parent/Player Meeting – PHS Soccer Field

August 4th – 6th – Kid’s Camp – 5:30 – 8:30 – We need parent volunteers to assist with check in and to be around to help players and coaches with groups – we also need donated snacks/cookies/ for the campers that we give out at the end of the evening. We also are looking for oranges (cut in to sections) that we pass out during the camp when they take water breaks.

August 11th – FIRST DAY of practice (have physical completed by this date or you will not be able to practice).

Please let me know what evening you will be able to assist with snacks, oranges or your time during camp – we really appreciate your help!

Remember on Wednesday evening there will be an alumni game with current players vs. PHS Alumni.
