Parkview Beats Waynesville 2-1

The Lady Vikings played a road game against the Waynesville Tigers on Thursday, and won 2-1. This Ozark Conference match makes Parkview 8-0 in the Conference, and clinches at least a share of the Conference title. The Vikings are now 14-2 overall. Last year Parkview’s record at the end of the season was 14-10, yet the Vikings have already reached that total wins this year, with 4 regular season matches left.

The Tigers scored two minutes into the game, catching the Vikings off guard with an aggressive attack. Caylin Manary pushed the first shot off of the post, but a Waynesville player followed up the shot and hammered it in.

Parkview knotted the game up when Kelsey Loderhose played the ball to Melanie Allen to the right of the goal, just inside the 18. Allen was able to take a touch and beat the keeper to tie the game at 1-1.

With 14 minutes left in the match, Jessica Maerz jumped on a loose ball and played it through to Shelby Stewart. Stewart beat a defender before putting the ball in the side netting for the go-ahead goal.

Scoring Summary: Melanie Allen 1g, Shelby Stewart 1g, Jessica Maerz 1a, Kelsey Loderhose 1a.

The Junior Varsity Girls lost 0-1 on a first half PK. Keeper Maddie George save the initial shot, but the defense failed to clear the rebound before a Waynesville player followed it up and scored.

The JV girls battled back in the second half, with Allie Griese and Keyuna Mays creating scoring chances, and the defense limited the Tiger’s scoring opportunities. The PHS girls looked like a different team in the second half, but just couldn’t their chances.

Parkview will play Ozark on Friday, the Vikings’ last District game of the season before the District Tournament. Friday night will also be Senior Night, and the game at JFK will feature a JV match at 5:00pm, and the Varsity squad will follow at about 7:00pm. Senior night festivities will take place prior to the Varsity match, at about 6:30pm.

The Lady Vikings went on the road to Hillcrest on Tuesday, and won 7-0. Parkview is now 7-0 in the Ozark Conference, and 13-2 overall.

Freshmen Emily Courtney started at outside mid for Parkview, and got the scoring started for the Vikings on an unassisted goal. Shelby Stewart also picked up two goals and an assist, and now leads the team in total points (30), with her 12 goals (tied for first with Loderhose) and 6 assists (second to Maerz’s 7 assists).

The Vikings were able to hold the ball on the Hornets’ side of the field for the majority of the match, while still being able to rest some players with two more games coming up on both Thursday and Friday. Parkview has one of their final two Ozark Conference games on Thursday, on the road at Waynesville.

Five different players scored for the JV girls. Mary Langebartel dominated offensively in the first half, scoring the first two Viking goals early in the match, and picking up an assist later as well. Marie Maize, Becca Castillo, and Sayra Villela all scored their first goals of the season.

JV Ties Catholic, Loses to Glendale

In the KHS JV Tournament, The Vikings suffered a close 1-2 loss to Glendale, and tied Catholic 1-1.

Alex Shupert scored from 25 yards out against Glendale in first half stoppage time, to bring the Vikings within one at 1-2 going into half. In the second half, Mary Langebartel, Emily Courtney, and Sydnie Pilkinton created some great scoring opportunities, along with Marie Maize controlling the field for the Vikings. Neither team was able to score in the second half, and the final score was 1-2.

Scoring Summary: Alex Shupert 1g

In the second game of the day, Alex Shupert scored again, this time on an assist from Sydnie Pilkinton. The Vikings went into halftime with a 1-0 lead, thanks to very solid play by Amanda Leckrone at sweeper, and the rest of the defense working hard as well. The Vikings hit a lull in play during the second half, and Catholic took advantage of an opportunity to tie the game up at 1-1. Again Mary Langebartel pressured the Catholic defense well, but the keeper made multiple 1 v. 1 saves to keep the final score at 1-1.

Scoring Summary: Alex Shupert 1g, Sydnie Pilkinton 1a
