Parkview Tops Kickapoo 2-1 in OT

April 29th, 2010

The Parkview Lady Vikings have played six Ozark Conference matches, and are now a perfect 6-0 after defeating the Kickapoo Chiefs 2-1 in overtime. Parkview is now 4-0 in the District, and 12-2 overall.

The Vikings got on the board first, with 14 minute left in the first half. Shelby Stewart played the ball into the box, and it deflected off of a defender. Kelsey Loderhose was camped out far post, and corralled the ball, took a touch, and hammered the ball in from about 5 yards away.

Parkview held the lead going into halftime, but gave up a goal in the second half when McKenna Adams was able to get through the defense, and tie the game at 1-1.

In the second overtime period, Loderhose ran down a ball and touched it just by the oncoming keeper, slotting it just into the side netting for the Vikings’ second overtime winner in as many weeks.

Ole of www.sgfsoccer.com was at the match, took some photos and did a writeup of his own, as well as this video of Shelby burning two defenders and shooting.

Scoring Summary: Kelsey Loderhose 2g, Shelby Stewart 1a
(KHS: McKenna Adams 1g)

The Junior Varsity Ladies pulled out a 1-1 tie, after going down 0-1 in the first half. The PHS goal was scored in the second half by Alex Shupert from about 35 yards out. Shupert gathered the ball in the middle of the field, pushed the ball a step out in front of her, and hammered it over the keepers hands for the game tying goal.

The next Parkview game will be Tuesday at Hillcrest High School. Varsity will play at 4:00pm, and JV will follow at about 5:45pm.

The JV also has a tournament scheduled for this weekend at Kickapoo High School.

Vikings Beat Camdenton 2-1

April 27th, 2010

Thanks to a Jessica Maerz goal with a minute left in the match, the Parkview Lady Vikings beat the Camdenton Lakers on Tuesday night 2-1, making them 5-0 in the Ozark Conference and 11-2 overall.

The Vikings gave up a goal in the first five minutes, starting flat until the early Camdenton goal woke Parkview up. Shelby Stewart got the goal back before halftime by beating a defender with speed on Anna Wither’s through-ball, and knocking the ball by the keeper to make the halftime score 1-1.

Keeper Caylin Manary had to make a handful of tough saves and decisions throughout the match, including one from point blank in the first five minutes of the match, and coming off her line to calm potential chaos in the box once in the second half as well. Parkview’s offense came for the majority of the match from Shelby Stewart and Kelsey Loderhose, but Jessica Maerz got involved in the second half as well. Holly Messick has a very solid game as well, playing the majority of the match in place of Aubrey Durst who was out for the night.

With only a minute left in the match and the score still knotted up at one all, Holly Messick controlled a loose ball and found Jessica Maerz at midfield. Maerz shot from 30 yards out, and put the ball just over the keeper’s hands for the game winner.

Scoring Summary: Shelby Stewart 1g, Jessica Maerz 1g, Anna Withers 1a, Holly Messick 1a

Ole of www.sgfsoccer.com was at the match, and got some photos as well as writing an article on the Parkview victory.

JV
The Vikings defended well for the majority of the match, and went into halftime with a 0-0 tie. Parkview got their goal when Alex Shupert found Emily Courtney just inside the 18′ and Courtney drilled a shot in the lower 90′ for the 1-0 lead. Camdenton tied the match on a PK that keeper Maddie George dove at and got a hand on, but the shot was placed well and tied the game at 1-1.

Scoring Summary: Emily Courtney 1g, Alex Shupert 1a.

The Vikings’ next match will also be an Ozark Conference match, Thursday at Kickapoo. The JV match will be played first at 5:00pm, and the Varsity game will follow at about 6:45pm.

Vikings Get First Ever State Poll Tally

April 24th, 2010

The Lady Vikings have had a successful year without a lot of recognition, but that changed a bit on Saturday when the Missouri State Poll came out for Class 3. With key wins over Rolla, Nixa, and Glendale twice, the Parkview girls earned a vote in the coach’s poll for the first time ever.

Vikings Take On West Plains Tournament

April 21st, 2010

The Varsity ladies will look to add tallies in the win column with a return to the West Plains Zizzer Soccer Classic tournament again this year. West Plains always puts on a great tournament, and the Viking squad looks forward to Valley View on Friday evening (5:00pm), as well as Sikeston and Affton on Saturday. The Viking have NEVER won all 3 games in this tournament, but were able to win 2 matches and the tournament for the first time ever in 2009.

The Zizzer Soccer Classic, hosted by West Plains, began in 2004. The first year of the tournament the Vikings went 0-1 before thunderstorms forced it to be canceled. In 2005 the Vikings went 1-2 in the tournament, winning over Harrison before losing to Lee’s Summit West and Moberly (record: 1-2). Parkview was the #7 seed in 2006, getting slaughtered by #2 Jonesboro before losing to #6 West Plains in PK’s and beating #8 Jennings (record: 1-2). In 2007 Parkview was the last seed out of 8 teams in the tournament. The Vikings lost to #1 Notre Dame, #5 Cape Central, and #6 West Plains (record: 0-3). 2008 found the Vikings entering the tournament as the #6 seed. Parkview lost to #3 Moberly in overtime, as well as #2 Waynesville before beating the host #8 West Plains after losing to them in the tournament the previous two years (record: 1-2). In 2009 the Vikings beat Cape and Liberty, and lost to Sikeston. Parkview came out tied for first (with Affton), winning the tournament for the first time ever.

Flash forward to 2010, and the Vikings have raised both their level of play and their expectations as well. The “round robin” style of the tournament will force the Vikings to bring their A-game to the table for all three games, and the Vikings will be looking to win 3 in the West Plains Tournament for the first time ever, and take home the title for consecutive years.

If this article looks familiar, that’s because it’s a recycled version of last year’s pre-West Plains tournament article. Get over it!

Vikings Beat the Falcons in OT, 3-2.

April 20th, 2010

The Parkview Lady Vikings have defeated the Glendale Falcons twice in a four day span, this time with a 3-2 overtime victory. After beating the Falcons on Saturday in the Kickapoo Tournament 2-1, the Vikings came back from a 0-2 deficit to score two goals in the last 18 minutes and another in overtime for the win. Parkview is now 4-0 in the Ozark Conference, and 10-2 overall.

A starting back line of Mckenzi Payton, Aubrey Durst, Amy Greene, and Jessica Maerz held things together for the majority of the match for the Vikings, giving up one goal early, and a second in the second half due to a miscommunication, but along with senior keeper Caylin Manary in front of the net Parkview held strong overall and completely dominated the last twenty minutes of the match.

The attack was anchored by Shelby Stewart and Kelsey Loderhose. Having Loderhose back after missing the last match against Glendale was a nice change of pace, as her presence serves as another scoring threat when teams choose to double and triple team Stewart. The first Viking goal was scored when after a set piece cross, the ball got lost in a scrum and Molly Robb hammered in it to bring the Vikings within one. The second goal came when Stewart dribbled through two defenders and had her shot deflected, Loderhose, whose shot was deflected to Melanie Allen, who drilled it into the back of the net to tie the match at 2-2 (see video below).

As soon as the overtime began, the Vikings took control again. Kelsey Loderhose won the ball in the midfield and dribbled it to about 30 out, where she shot from, and beat the keeper over the top for the walk-off victory (see video below).

Scoring Summary: Kelsey Loderhose 1g, Molly Robb 1g, Melanie Allen 1g

The videos below were taken by Ole’ at www.sgfsoccer.org, who also wrote up a great article about the match.

Junior Varsity
Playing without sweeper and captain Anna Bingham, Parkview had a back line of Amanda Leckrone at sweeper, along with Marissa Deffenbaugh, Carsen Miller, and Rebecca Castillo. The Vikings went into halftime with a 0-2 deficit, but could not keep it close. Sydnie Pilkinton stepped in front of a defender, beat another, and put the ball by the keeper for the Vikings lone goal.

Glendale 6

Scoring Summary: Sydnie Pilkinton 1g

The Vikings will now have a few days off, after playing 5 games in 5 days. The next set of matches will come this weekend as Parkview plays at the West Plains tournament. Friday the Vikings will play Valley View, then Saturday Parkview sees Sikeston and Affton.

Parkview Beats Branson 4-1

April 19th, 2010

The Parkview Lady Vikings are now 9-2 after beating Branson 4-1.

The Vikings made up for some lost time in the scoring department, and were able to rest some players as well, scoring 4 on Monday night after tallying only 2 goals in the previous 3 games (while going 1-2 in the KHS tournament).

Parkview looked flat at the start of the match, and Branson scored an early goal on a set piece from 30 out. The Vikings evened up the score at halftime, and put three away in the second half.

The match featured the return of Kelsey Loderhose, who had missed 6 straight games. Prior to her injury, Loderhose had scored 7 goals in the first 4 games.

Scoring Summary: Shelby Stewart 2g, Jessica Maerz 1g 1a, Mary Langebartel 1g, Emily Courtney 1a.

The Junior Varsity Vikings scored one per half, and shutout Branson for the second win of the season. The JV is now 2-3-2, with Alex Shupert picking up two goals, both assisted by Sydnie Pilkinton. Pilkinton crossed the ball directly to Shupert inside the eighteen, and Shupert hammered it home for the eventual game winner.

Scoring Summary: Alex Shupert 2g, Sydnie Pilkinton 2a

The Vikings play Glendale on Tuesday, at Parkview. The Lady Vikings beat Glendale 2-1 in the Kickapoo tournament on Saturday, with both teams missing key players. The rematch will feature the JV squads playing first at 4:00pm on the PHS Grass Field, and the Varsity game will follow at about 5:45pm.
