Viking Varsity Loses 1-2, JV Wins

September 9th, 2009

The Parkview Varsity team lost 1-2 to Ozark on Wednesday night, playing their second game in as many nights. After going down 1-0 in the first half on a late first half goal, the Vikings also gave up an early second half goal before reasserting themselves in the match. Parkview changed their lineup a bit and got their feet back under them, applying real pressure throughout the second half.

The Vikings earned great chances by playing to feet and making a lot of great passes, especially facilitated by Jared Moore. Sam Vigil, had a solid game defensively for the Vikings, and Tanner Bennett, Jordan Houseman, Alex Blanco and Brian Otradovec helped kickstart the offense in the second half. Bennett was able to get off a couple good looks on frame, and late in the match the Vikings finally got a call in the box. Jared Moore beat a player 1 v. 1 and then was dragged down inside the penalty area. Moore was able to finish off the PK shot to bring the score within one, but the Vikings could not finish any more opportunities.

Ozark High School wrote up an article as well, which you can check out as well.

Vikings Pick Up First Win

September 8th, 2009

The Vikings put their first mark in the win column on Tuesday night, finding their offense in a 10-0 victory over Hillcrest. The Vikings got their first goal of the season when Blake White (junior) beat the keeper from the left side of the field. After an own goal, White got his second of the night (assisted by junior Jordan Houseman), this time with his right foot, making the score 3-0.

After taking a 6-0 halftime lead, the Vikings did not stop. Sophomore Brian Otradovec picked up two second half goals for the hat-trick, and senior Sam Vigil ended the night about 10 minutes early with a header off a great cross from Houseman. Senior keeper Jon Malter earned the shutout in goal .

Scoring summary: Blake White 2g 2a, Brian Otradovec 3g, Tanner Bennett 2g, Jared Moore 1g, Sam Vigil 1g, Jordan Houseman 2a, TJ Joy 1a, Michael Duff 1a, Jon Malter: Shutout

The Junior Varsity squad also won 10-0 to grab their first win of the season. The Vikings controlled the match from the start. Daniel Vansant did not play in the first half, but picked up three second half goals for his 2nd, 3rd, and 4th goals of the season. Other than Vansant, the scoring was quite spread out for the Vikings, who got a total of 10 goals from 7 players. The match ended a few minutes early with starting keeper Evin Barber, playing center-mid at the time, beat the sweeper with a cut and slotted the ball into the side netting for the 10th goal of the game. Vikings Lose Home Opener

September 5th, 2009

While both squads looked better than they had the previous match, the ending results were the same, 0-4 and 0-2 losses. Jefferson City, in to play three matches on the weekend, scored 2 in the first half, and 2 more in the second, and the Parkview offense was unable to finish their chances on the other end of the field. The Vikings buildup and attack looked much improved since the Carthage game, with Dane Knapp and Michael Duff winning balls in the back and connecting to midfielders on a consistent basis. One play found Knapp coming up with a loose ball, finding Jared Moore at center mid, who connected with forward Brian Otradovec, who then found a streaking Alex Blanco for a nice rip on frame. Although the match ended poorly for the Vikings, they have to be happy with the improved overall play. For those who were wondering how Jeff City faired against the other Springfield team they faced this weekend, Jeff City beat Kickapoo 3-1 on Saturday. Parkview will be looking for there first win of the season against Hillcrest on Tuesday, followed by a match against a tough Ozark Tiger squad on Wednesday.

The PHS JV squad also looked much better against Jefferson City. Although they were unable to finish, they created some quality opportunities throughout. Evin Barber was solid in goal for the second consecutive match, but the defense struggled at times to clear the ball inside the penalty area. The addition of Pedro Pitonez helped clear things up in the midfield, and also allowed TJ Joy and John Bogue to get more involved in the offense up top. The Viking JV squad will have Juan Garcia eligible by Wednesday as well, which should add more to the attack and give Parkview more options in the midfield.

Tuesday: PHS vs. Hillcrest @ PHS Grass Field. Varsity at 4:00pm, JV around 5:45pm
Wednesday: PHS @ Ozark. JV at 5:00pm, Varsity around 6:45pm
