Vikings Win Two Over Nixa

The Parkview Varsity squad was able to right the ship against Nixa on Friday night with a 3-0 victory. The varsity squad was without both Jonathan Malter and Dane Knapp both out due to injury. The defense was spectactular, forcing Rudy Fotsch to only come up with two saves all night. Kyle Kutz, Sam Vigil, Trey Kalbaugh, and Vance Marlow played great as a team. The offense started off early scoring in the seventh minute when Tim Griffin beat two defenders and crossed the ball into the path of an onrushing Jared Moore who easily deposited it into the back of the net. In the 38th minute Tim Griffin sent a ball into space for Jared Moore and Jared struck it to the far post for a 2-0 Parkview lead. The scoring finished in the first half when Tim Griffin danced up the touchline and played the ball back into the box into space for Jared Moore who finished nicely for his first hat trick of the year. This win leaves the Varsity squad at 9-4-0 on the season.

The Junior Varsity match was a battle all the way through, but the Vikings were able to prevail with a 1-0 victory. Keeper Evin Barber earned the shutout by playing aggressive and clean in the back, and the defense anchored by Shane Maloney and Blake White held down the fort in front of Barber. Late in the match, Jordan Houseman found Brian Otradovec on a cross, and Otradovec was able to finish a beautiful shot into the upper ninety. The win puts the Junior Varsity at 4-4-2 on th season.

Varsity Loses, JV Ties

Without starting keeper Jon Malter, the Vikings went up against the Joplin Eagles and lost 3-2. Following a close match on Tuesday, and with a District match on Friday, the Vikings were forced to lean on their depth Thursday night, with backup Keeper Rudy Fotsch playing well throughout his first career Varsity match in goal. Tim Griffin scored a goal in each half, giving the Vikings a 1-0 lead at halftime, and after falling behind 2-1 midway through the second half, Griffin scored the game tying goal as well. Sophomores Jordan Houseman and Blake White played big minutes on Thursday. Houseman has been logging Varsity minutes on a game-to-game basis out the outside mid position.

The Junior Varsity squad played well defensively in Joplin Thursday night, but were unable to muster much offense throughout the overall match. After giving up a goal about midway through the second half to go down 1-0, Brian Otradovec was able to get his head on a cross to keep it alive before Daniel Vansant ran in to head the ball into the back of the net, tying the game at 1-1. The Vikings were able to get a few more chances after the game was tied, but the match ended tied thanks to resilient play late in the match.

Parkview plays next on Friday against Nixa, a District match.
