After coming out a bit flat against Helias in Jefferson City, the Vikings gave up the first goal of the match to go down 0-1. Jon Malter made a ridiculous save in the first half that kept Helias from netting there second goal when he jumped up and backwards as he punched a ball over the crossbar. The Vikings got on the scoreboard in the first half when Dane Knapp played a set-piece from midfield over the top of the Helias defense, for Tim Griffin. Griffin was able to run onto the long-ball and strike it past the keeper for the 1-1 tie. The second goal of the match came from a corner kick when Leland Eckstam hit a “black hole” ball that Morgan Holt was able to get a leg on for the eventual game winner in the 2-1 victory.
Griffin’s goal was his 35th of the season, and his 91st career goal. He is now tied with Patrick Carver in PHS career goals at 91, and is one short of tying the single season PHS scoring record which Carver also holds at 36.
Scoring summary: Tim Griffin (1G) from Dane Knapp (1A), Morgan Holt (1G) from Leland Eckstam (1A)
The Vikings play next in the District Tournament on Monday night (11/3/08). The match is against Branson at Kickapoo, and will be played at 7:00. Parkview is the 3rd seed in the District 11 Tournament, and Branson is 6th. If the Vikings win on Monday night then they would play again on Tuesday night against #2 seeded Glendale (also 7:00 at Kickapoo).
The varsity is 17-7…what is the most wins in a single season for PHS?
I know that Clint has had some 20 win seasons in the past, but I don’t know the official record right off. The difference the past few years is that we’ve had a much tougher schedule, sacrificing the Monetts, Willards, and Centrals of the world for teams like Jefferson City, Helias, Jackson, etc. With the schedule we play, 17-7 is very respectable, but past PHS teams have won more games playing softer schedules.
I understand completely – thanks for the response! Who knows…if we can knock off Branson, Glendale, Kickapoo and win the sectional matchup we could still break that record!
No problem. Clint says that the best record in his years as Parkview was 23-4. This was the 2003-2004 season, when Patrick Carver, Brian Fishback, Josh Florez, Adam Mckay, etc. were all Juniors. They were 21-2-3 their Senior year (in case anyone was wondering).
