Vikings Beat Helias 2-1

After coming out a bit flat against Helias in Jefferson City, the Vikings gave up the first goal of the match to go down 0-1. Jon Malter made a ridiculous save in the first half that kept Helias from netting there second goal when he jumped up and backwards as he punched a ball over the crossbar. The Vikings got on the scoreboard in the first half when Dane Knapp played a set-piece from midfield over the top of the Helias defense, for Tim Griffin. Griffin was able to run onto the long-ball and strike it past the keeper for the 1-1 tie. The second goal of the match came from a corner kick when Leland Eckstam hit a “black hole” ball that Morgan Holt was able to get a leg on for the eventual game winner in the 2-1 victory.

Griffin’s goal was his 35th of the season, and his 91st career goal. He is now tied with Patrick Carver in PHS career goals at 91, and is one short of tying the single season PHS scoring record which Carver also holds at 36.

Scoring summary: Tim Griffin (1G) from Dane Knapp (1A), Morgan Holt (1G) from Leland Eckstam (1A)

Vikings Beat Lebanon 7-1, 2-0

The Parkview Varsity scored early and often in a 7-1 rout of the Lebanon Yellowjackets. Matt Medley played a beautiful ball over the defense to release Tim Griffin into the box, who scored on a nice half volley for a 1-0 PHS lead in the 13th minute. Seven minutes later Tim somehow scored an unassisted goal, dribbling through three players at the top of the box and striking the ball past the keeper. Jonathan Malter had his only two saves of the match later in the first half. The second half started with Leland Ekstam beating a player down the line off a deep throw-in and then playing the ball back off the touchline to an onrushing Tim Griffin who deposited the ball neatly into the back of the net for the hat trick and a 3-0 Parkview lead. In the 54th minute Jared Moore and Tim Griffin played a nice give and go and Jared struck the ball on the first touch. The ball clipped the near post and ended up in the far side netting for a 4-0 score. Morgan Holt played a nice ball to Matt Medley who struck the ball hard enough to get through the keeper, and was followed up and tapped over the line by Darren Shaw for a 5-0 Viking lead. Lebanon took advantage of a call from the referee when he called a back pass inside the six yard box, giving them an indirect kick about 8 yards out from the goal. Lebanon scored the opportunity making the score 5-1. Jared Moore added an assist on a free kick from outside the 18 when he played a nicely weighted ball for Tim Griffin who slotted it past the keeper for his fourth goal of the night. Rudy Fotsch received a ball out wide in the 70th minute and played it across the face of the goal to Jared Moore who finished it past the keeper from the six for the final tally of the night, 7-1 Parkview.

Tim Griffin now stands one goal away from tying Patrick Carver for the all time career goal and point lead, two goals away from holding the record himself (based on unofficial stats that are being double checked). Come out and cheer Tim and the Vikings on in their last two games of the season. The Vikings are 16-6 following incredible years of 17-7-1 and 17-7 with two games left in the regular season.

Scoring summary: Tim Griffin (4G, 1A) Jared Moore (2G, 1A) Darren Shaw (1G) Matt Medley (1A) Rudy Fotsch (1A)

The Junior Varsity won 2-0, to go to 7-4-3 on the season with only two matches left. The first goal of the match came when center mid Pedro Pitonez played the ball to Jordan Houseman, who quickly moved the ball up field to Brian Otradovec. Otradovec saw the keeper rushing out toward him and calmly hit a 30 yard shot off the inside of the right post and in for a 1-0 lead. The second goal of the match was also assisted by Houseman and finished by Otradovec. Evin Barber earned the shutout, but a defense anchored by Shane Maloney, Travis Dillard, Blake White, and Jacob Carlew deserve a fair share of the credit by allowing very few shots on goal.

Scoring summary: Brian Otradovec (2G) Jordan Houseman (2A)
