Vikings Go 1-2 at ‘Zizzer Classic’ in West Plains

The Vikings faced Moberly Friday night and lost 2-1 in overtime. After Moberly scored about fifteen minutes into the second half, freshmen striker Kelsey Loderhose found the back of the net for the equalizer. The match went to overtime, and sophomore striker Shelby Stewart put a great long shot off of the far post that almost won the game for the Vikings. Near the end of the first overtime a Moberly player was able to put a well placed shot into corner of the net for the win.

The second match of the tournament found the Vikings playing Waynesville on Saturday morning. After keeping it a close match by playing defensively in the first half, the Vikings were down 0-1 at the break. In the second half, Parkview got a bit more aggressive offensively. The Vikings, however, were unable to get a goal, and ended up losing the game 3-0.

The final game of the day for Parkview was against the home team, West Plains. The Vikings, who lost to West Plains three times last year, won the match 3-1, with two goals from sophomore midfielder Jessica Maerz, and one from freshmen Kelsey Loderhose. Maerz got the only goal of the first half, unassisted, on a nice shot that beat the keeper over the top from about twenty-five yards out. After Loderhose got a goal in the second half on a nice pass from Maerz and a great finish into the corner, West Plains nailed a shot from the mark to make the score 2-1 Parkview. Late in the match, Parkview was award a penalty shot of their own, and Maerz followed up her own miss off the keeper’s hands, putting it in the back of the net to make the final score 3-1 Parkview.

Both Squads Lose To Glendale In Close Matches

The Parkview Lady Vikings dropped a close match against Glendale Tuesday night, losing 4-3 at home. The Parkview goals came from striker Shelby Stewart (sophomore), striker Emmy Dale (senior), and midfielder Jessica Maerz (sophomore), while Glendale got goals from Megan Gerrad, Emily Cline, and two from Jamie Bond. The Vikings battled well against the Falcons, after going down 1-0 getting an equalizer, and then a second goal to make the score 2-1 Parkview. After Glendale tied the game at 2, the Vikings were able to take the lead again, making the halftime score 3-2 Parkview. The Falcons game out strong in the second half getting an early goal, and head coach Clint Nurnberg was given his second yellow card of the match (the first for a player’s jewelry, the second for arguing a no-call), resulting in him being ejected. The Falcons got another goal early in the second half, taking a 4-3 lead. That would turn out to be all the goal scoring for the rest of the match, as the Vikings fought hard and had their chances, but although they were able to defend well, Parkview was unable to finish another chance.

The JV Vikings lost their match to Glendale 0-1. Strong play by the defense kept them in the match, but Parkview was unable to capitalize on their scoring opportunities.

The Vikings play a Varsity-only match tomorrow, at home; kickoff is at 5:00 p.m.

Vikings Updated Schedule

Varsity and JV Get Wins In Neosho

The Lady Vikings Varsity squad matched up against the Neosho Wildcats Friday night, getting the 3-1. The Vikings went to 3-2 on the season getting the first goal of the game from sophomore Shelby Stewart. Stewart, playing striker, also found fellow sophomore Jessica Maerz cutting up the field for a nice flick-on lead pass that Maerz finished. Maerz’s goal made the score 2-0 at the end of the first half. In the second half, Neosho got a goal of their own before freshman Kelsey Loderhose, playing striker at the time, was able to finish one of her own (unassisted).

The Junior Varsity squad also put their first mark in the win column, earning a 2-0 win over the Neosho JV. In the first half, freshman midfielder Katie Fortney found Lana Aberle through the defense for a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later Aberle again earned herself a goal, this time unassisted. The Neosho goalie was on her toes throughout the game, making a few key saves on what could (and probably should) have been goals number 3 and 4, including a shot from the mark. This was the Parkview Junior Varsity’s first win of the season, following their tie against Lebanon. Freshman keeper Maddie George earned her first shutout of the season, making fundamentally sound decisions, few key saves, and being vocal and aggressive in the goal for the Vikings.

The Vikings next play at Joplin on Tuesday, with the JV match beginning at 4:30 p.m. and the Varsity to follow.

Varsity loses to Lebanon, JV ties

The Parkview Lady Vikings Varsity squad lost to the Lebanon Yellow-Jackets 3-2 Thursday night, in a hard fought match on a fairly wet but quite playable field. Lebanon was able to control possession in the majority of the first half, but the Vikings defense and goalkeeping were able to keep it a low scoring affair throughout the first half. Down 1-0 at the break, the Vikings came out a new team in the second half, getting a game tying goal from senior striker Emmy Dale on a nice pass from sophomore midfielder Jessica Maerz. After going down 2-1 the Vikings were again able to again get a quick equalizer as Maerz got one of her own (assist by Melanie Allen, sophomore). Late in the match the Jackets were awarded a shot from the mark, and Emilie Boher was able to put it away to give Lebanon the win.

In the Junior Varsity match the Lady Vikings were faced with an equal opponent in Lebanon, as the game ended in a 1-1 tie. The Vikings got their goal midway through the second half with a long shot from freshman striker Molly Robb, who was able to beat the keeper over the top. The Jackets, again, were awarded a penalty kick with two minutes remaining and put it away, knotting the game at one goal a side.

Parkview plays Friday at Neosho, with the Junior Varsity slotted to play first, and the Varsity to follow.
