Vikings Win Back To Back

April 29th, 2008

The Parkview Lady Vikings beat Hillcrest Tuesday night 7-0, their second straight after playing West Plains on Monday. The Vikings got a hat trick from Kelsey Loderhose, two from Jessica Maerz, and goals from Emmy Dale, and Kristine Malter as well. The Vikings were up 1-0 at the break, with the goal coming from an indirect kick from about twenty-five yards out. Sophomore midfielder Jessica Maerz touched the ball and freshman Kelsey Loderhose hammered the ball into the upper corner of the far-post netting. Sophomore keeper Caylin Manary, recently named to the Zizzer All-Tournament team, earned her fourth shutout of the season.

The Junior Varsity squad picked up their second in a row as well, winning the match 4-0. Parkview benefited from Olivia Solari’s hat-trick, as she had a nose for the goal on three separate occasions (one assisted by Molly Robb). The other scorer was freshman striker Lana Aberle, which makes six goals for her on the season. Freshman keeper Maddi George earned the shutout, her third of the season, and second in a row.

The Vikings play a tough Waynesville squad on Thursday, with the Junior Varsity squad set to play first at 4:30. The Varsity Vikings lost to Waynesville previously this season in the West Plains tournament 3-0.

Manary Makes All-Tournament Team

April 29th, 2008

Sophomore keeper Caylin Manary was selected to the Zizzer Classic All-Tournament team this year. This honor comes for the second straight year for Manary, who made the All-Tournament team in West Plains as a Freshmen as well. Manary, in only her second year of playing competitive soccer, is a returning Varsity starter who has four shutouts this season.

For the full list of the All-Tournament team check out the West Plains Soccer Website.

Both Viking Squads Beat West Plains

April 28th, 2008

The Varsity Vikings went to West Plains on Monday night and beat the Zizzers for the second time this season. The Vikings previously beat West Plains 3-1 in the Zizzer’s tournament April 19th. Playing without sophomore striker Shelby Stewart, Parkview’s lone goal came in the first half from sophomore striker Jessica Maerz. Maerz’s goal came on a nicely placed shot high and into the back of the net. The shutout was recorded by sophomore keeper Caylin Manary.

The Junior Varsity squad recorded their second win of the season, winning the match 4-0 against West Plains. The first goal of the match was made by freshmen striker Lana Aberle. Aberle finished with two goals, freshmen striker Sarah Stutz scored one, and freshmen midfielder Olivia Solari got her first of the season as well. Freshmen keeper Maddi George recorded the shutout, in part thanks to a solid defense anchored by freshmen sweeper Anna Withers. The Vikings dominated play for the majority of the match, but were not able to finish more than a chance or two until late in the second half.

The Vikings play Tuesday at Hillcrest, with the Varsity playing first at 4:30 p.m. and the Junior Varsity to follow.

Tired Vikings Lose to Tigers

April 25th, 2008

After playing Thursday night against Kickapoo and losing in shootouts, the Vikings faced an equally tough Ozark squad on Friday. The result of the match was a 5-1 loss to the Ozark Tigers, ending a long week for the Vikings in which they faced Camdenton, Kickapoo, and Ozark. The lone goal for the Vikings came on a shot from the mark by sophomore striker Shelby Stewart. Following a foul in the penalty area by an Ozark player, Stewart stepped up and confidently struck shot into the upper corner of the goal.

The Junior Varsity match started off well for the Vikings, but did not end well, as the Vikings lost the match 3-1. The first goal of the game found freshmen striker Lana Aberle challenging a 50-50 ball with the Tiger’s keeper on the edge of the penalty area, winning control of the ball, and making a well placed pass across the box to freshmen striker Sarah Stutz. Stutz was able to hit the shot in one touch before the keeper could get back into position, giving Parkview a 1-0 lead.

The Vikings next match is on Monday as they travel to West Plains to face the Zizzers. The Junior Varsity squad plays first at 5:00, with the Varsity to follow. The varsity squad has seen West Plains once already this year, taking home a 3-1 win and seventh place in the West Plains tournament.

Vikings Lose In Shootout

The Varsity ladies lost in a shootout Thursday night against Kickapoo 2-1 (4-2). The Chiefs struck first with a goal by Mallory Williams only a minute into the second half. With about ten minutes left the Vikings were awarded a shot from the mark, which was promptly finished by senior striker Emmy Dale to tie the game 1-1.

The game went through the last ten minutes of regulation and two ten minute overtime periods before reaching the shootout. Both sophomore midfielder Jessica Maerz and senior sweeper Kristine Malter made their penalty shots, but the Vikings missed two others, losing the shootout 4-2.

The Junior Varsity squad lost to Kickapoo 5-1. Parkview’s lone goal came from freshmen striker Lana Aberle (unassisted).

Newsleader Features Vikings

April 23rd, 2008

Read the Springfield Newsleader’s article about the Varsity Vikings squad this year by clicking here. The article includes pictures and quotes from the girls, as well as head coach Clint Nurnberg. It’s an interesting read for those associated with Parkview soccer. If you look closely enough you will find a mistake in the article, but that is a small complaint for a team that has come so far in a year.

ENJOY! here.
