Parkview’s Season Ends

On a cool night in Joplin Parkview came out ready to play. The game was intense, with back and forth play all night, and a three yellow cards as well. In the first half Tim Griffin (junior) sent a ball wide to Derek Rosbrugh (senior) who bent in a beautiful cross onto the head of Matt Beckett (senior), who headed the ball back across the face of the goal and over a diving Adam Legg for a 1-0 Parkview lead. A few minutes later Kickapoo earned a deep throw in and the ball was flicked beyond Jon Malter (sophomore) by Heath Melugin and finished into an open net by Skyler Russell for a 1-1 tie at half. The second half showed some increased intensity both on the field and from the fans - as both sets of parents/fans were actively involved in the match. In the about the 60th minute, Caleb Collier sent a long ball into the area and Zach Hay headed it over Jon Malter (sophomore) for the winning goal, 2-1. Parkview had a fantastic chance to equalize a few minutes later when Tim Griffin (junior) broke through two defenders into the box alone. Adam Legg came out to contest, and Tim hit the far post - the ball bounced straight back into the box and Leland Ekstam (junior) hit it hard, but it glanced off a defender and out. In a scrum in the 75th minute in the Kickapoo box Matt Beckett (senior) hit a ball just wide of the left post. In a hard fought match Parkview’s season ends with a 17-7-1 record.

We’ll say goodbye to some fantastic seniors, Matt Beckett, Will Griffin, Derek Rosbrugh, Cody Hodge, Danny Perches, and Karl Fredrickson. We wish you the best of luck in your future endeavors.
