The Parkview varsity took the field against a good Kickapoo squad on a beautiful day and lost 6-1. Kickapoo’s first goal came in the 8th minute when a scrum in the box ended up with a ball in the back of the net - we think it was Kyler Temple’s goal. The teams played evenly for the next twenty minutes, and then in the 31st minute Zach Hay scored off a corner kick to make it 2-0 and it remained that way at the end of the half. In the second half Ian Kennedy played a nice through ball to Heath Melugin who cut the ball at the top of the box and deposited it for a 3-0 Kickapoo lead. Zach Hay played a long ball from the back to a racing Ian Kennedy on the wing and Ian finished far post for a 4-0 lead. Parkview responded immediately, scoring in the next minute (53rd) when Derek Rosbrugh (senior) through a ball in down the line into the box for Darren Shaw (junior). Darren calmly beat a defender with speed and crossed the ball diagonally back from the touch line into the path of Dane Knapp (sophomore), who finished in the upper netting from about 8 out - cutting the lead to 4-1. Kickapoo responded six minutes later when Skyler Russell found Heath Melugin for his second of the night. Matt Beckett (senior) had a beautiful slide tackle in the box, taking the ball off Skyler Russell’s feet and saving a goal in the 61st minute. On a corner kick a few minutes later Matt Beckett (senior) cleared the ball off the line. The scoring finished out when Heath Melugin was taken off his feet in the box and finished a PK in the side neeting for the final goal, 6-1. Parkview had 5 shots on goal to Kickapoo’s 13, and Jonathan Malter (sophomore) had seven saves in the match. Parkview fell to 4-4 on the season.
The JV team lost 1-0 in a hard-fought battle. It’s fair to say that against one of their toughest opponents of the season the JV played their best game thus far. The score was 0-0 at half thanks to great play by the entire defensive squad, anchored by Michael Duff. Ben Haldiman was clean and aggressive in goal, and it’s fair to say that Kickapoo out-possesed Parkview 60-40, while Parkview still had a few legitimate scoring chances. The JV team will look to build on this solid game and continue to play and at maximum intensity, and if they can look to see them picking up a good chunk of wins throughout the season. Tim Griffin (junior) scored a second goal on a penalty kick. Later Will Griffin (senior) set the table for Rudy Fotsch (junior) and a 3-0 score. Tim Griffin (junior) later assisted Will Hopkins (sophomore) for his second goal of the night. Jonathan Malter (sophomore) had three saves in goal.
Saturday morning Parkview played Carthage in a barn burner of a game that Parkview won 3-2. Matt Medley (junior) opened up the scoring receiving an assist from Derek Rosbrugh (senior). Morgan Holt (junior) put Parkveiw up 2-0 before the half with an unassisted goal. In the second half Carthage roared back and tied the score with goals by number 14 and number 5. Parkview won the game on an unassisted goal by Tim Griffin (junior).
The Championship game pitted Parkview against a very good West Plains Zizzer team - ranked 7th in the class 2 state high school soccer poll just this past week - coming into the action with a 7-2 record. The Vikings came out strong and the Zizzers held defensively and managed a few good scoring chances on the counterattack. On one counter, Stuart Ziegler broke in on the right side and fired a shot off the inside of the far post that bounced out and was grabbed by the Vikings Keeper. A few moments later, in the tenth minute, Ziegler took and pass from Chris Saner and fired another shot off the post, but this time it bounced in the goal for a 1-0 Zizzers lead. In the 21st minute Parkview tied it up on an unassisted 25 yard shot from Matt Medley (junior). One minute later, a Viking cross by Jared Moore (sophomore) found an onrushing Tim Griffin (junior) alone at the back post where he headed it in for a 2-1 Parkview lead. A failed clearance in the 35th minute, led to a third Parkview goal before halftime when Derek Rosbrugh (senior) pounded a shot into the back of the net. In the second half, Parkview continued to have the better of play. Griffin added another goal in the 4th minute after receiving a pass from Jared Moore (sophomore) and dribbling through a crowd a Zizzer players - ending up alone on Zizzer Keeper Shane Corl. Parkview’s final goal came on a 20 yard shot in the 12th minute by Rudy Fotsch (junior) assisted by Tim Griffin (junior) for an impressive 5-1 victory.

The Varsity soccer match with Rolla showed the boys playing improved soccer, moving the ball and putting together passes better than they have in the first few games this year. Both teams created chances, with Rolla putting 9 shots on goal and Parkview 4 shots on goal. Seven minutes in, Rolla created a breakaway opportunity for Tyler Sinnot, one v one with Trae Kalbaugh (junior) trying to run him down. Trae perfectly timed his slide tackle in the box and sent the ball away. Tim Griffin (junior) recieved a ball from Jared Moore (sophomore) in the 30th minute, deftly beat a defender at the top of the box, and hit a laser that the goalkeeper made a diving save on. In the 32nd minute a free kick was awarded to Rolla fifteen yards left of the box. The subsequent opportunity created a feeding frenzy in the box, with 3 quick shots from Rolla bouncing off defenders, resulting in a ball falling to the feet of Adam Daily, who finished easily into an open goal. Tyler Sinnot was credited with the assist. The referee awarded a penalty kick in the 50th minute when a Rolla player went down in the box a bit too easily. The resultant penalty bounced off the bottom of the crossbar and out and was cleared from danger. Jonathan Malter (sophomore) came up with a big reflex save in the 76th minute to keep the score 1-0 as Tyler Sinnot broke into the box with a defender in tow and hit a hard shot at goal. Maybe the last good chance of the game for Parkview came in the 78th minute when Matt Medley (junior) received a pass and turned with a full head of steam going in just off the 18 and fired a ball that went just over the top of the crossbar. The game ended in a 1-0 Rolla victory.
The Junior Varsity lost this evening 6-0 to Rolla, giving up three goals in each half.
Parkview soccer travels to Rolla today to play a tough Bulldogs team. Last year the varsity won 2-1 and the JV lost 3-2. Parkview is coming off a big win 10-0 vs Hillcrest and Rolla lost the championship game of their tourmanent 3-2 to Kickapoo. The JV plays at 4:30 followed by the Varsity. Good luck boys!
The Parkview Varsity came out on a mission last night, and mercy-ruled Hillcrest in the 68th minute, 10-0. The scoring started early with Tim Griffin (junior) winning a ball about midfield and launching a pass into space for Derek Rosbrugh (senior) who raced past the defender, collected the ball, and buried it far post in the 4th minute. Two minutes later Vance Marlow (junior) placed a beautiful ball onto the head of Tim Griffin (junior) which he placed past the keeper into the left side of the goal. In the 29th minute Matt Medley (junior) beat a player in the box and threaded the ball along the goal line past the keeper for an easy tap in for Danny Perches (senior). Eleven minutes later Jared Moore (sophomore) hit a bullet at the keeper who blocked the ball but was not able to control it and an onrushing Tim Griffin deposited it nicely into the goal. The score was 4-0 at half. Seven minutes into the second half Jared Moore (sophomore) scored an unassisted goal when he stole the ball on a throw in and ran past two defenders and slotted the ball to the far post past the keeper. One minute later Tim Griffin (junior) scored an unassisted goal, stealing the ball from a defender, beating said defender, and finishing far post with a good strike. In the 50th minute Tim Griffin (junior) was juggling the ball in the box trying to find a way to turn toward the goal when he was shoved from behind. The referee awared the penalty kick, which Tim calmly finished in the right side netting - his fourth on the night, but who’s counting? Ten minutes later the boys put together a fantastic play from a free kick opportunity just past midfield. Dane Knapp (sophomore) played a bouncing ball into the box which Jared Moore (sophomore) ran onto and crossed into the path of Darren Shaw (junior), who volleyed it into the back of the net. In the 65th minute Vance Marlow (junior) scored an unassisted goal after receiving the ball on a throw in, beating a player at the top of the box, and smashing the ball into the back of the net far post. The final goal came in the 68th minute when Vance Marlow (junior) made a nice ten yard pass to the feet of Matt Medley (junior), who calmly faked a defender and finished the ball far post. The weather was beautiful, with a little bit of rain at the beginning of the match and overcast skies throughout.
