Last year Jefferson City came to Parkview and we handed them two tough defeats, Varsity 2-1 and JV 1-0. This year we traveled up the road to meet them on their own pitch and they returned the favor.

The JV started well, giving up only one goal in the first 40 minutes of play. Junior Vance Marlow played well in the first 40. Ten minutes in, Jordan Marsh (freshman) won the ball with an excellent tackle in the midfield and sent a ball out into space for Jared Moore (sophomore), who beat the defenders and the keeper and slotted the ball home to make the game 1-1. Parkview was not able to hold on, however, and gave up two late goals to lose 3-1.
The varsity match started with Jefferson City attacking quickly and often. One of the strangest calls I’ve seen occurred in the 8th minute when the center referee called an indirect foul in the box on the Parkview defenders. The wall was marched back ten and the resultant free kick went off the left post and was cleared off the line. In the 12th minute number 12 (sorry no name) beat two defenders and on the end line sent the ball diagonally back across the goal for an onrushing Alec Naegle who buried it from the about the 10 far post, no chance for the keeper. Eight minutes later a foul at 30 yards out ruled the fate of Parkview, as Bryan Kirkwig (?) hit a low hard drive that deflected off the wall and ended up the left corner of the net beyond the diving outstretched arms of Johnathan Malter (sophomore) – a fortuitous bounce for Jeff City. The Parkview Varsity started bringing pressure to bear at the end of the first half, and Tim Griffin (Junior) hit a diving ball from inside the box after a corner kick that the Jefferson City goalkeeper tipped over the top with a phenomenal reflex save to keep the two goal lead. Minutes later Parkview created a scrum in the box and fired three successive shots on goal but were stonewalled. The second half saw Parkview come out and put immediate pressure on Jefferson City, stringing passes together and winning balls in the midfield. In the 75th minute after an excellent build up, Jared Moore (sophomore) received the ball on the 18 and sent a nice through ball to an onrushing Matt Medley (Junior) who placed a clinical finish to the far left post for the first Parkview goal of the new year. The Varsity pressed hard the last few minutes of the match, taking 11 shots on goal in the second half, but were denied, and lost a hard fought 2-1 match.
