The Vikings took control of the game early on. Even so, the team struggled to convert shots into goals for nearly 20 minutes. Once sophomore Trey Kalbaugh found the back of the net, however, other Vikings created ways to add to the mounting total. At halftime, the Vikings led 5-0.
With the start of the second half, the Vikings’ experience and depth allowed the team to dominate play. The Vikings’ comfortable lead throughout the game also allowed coach Clint Nurnberg to use his entire bench. Around the 60th minute, Joey Ekstam scored the Vikings’ 10th goal to end the match.
Despite the Viking’s lopsided victory, this year’s Hornets are showing marked improvement under the guidance of new coach Andrew Clifton. From ball handling to communicating on the field, the squad is making great strides that aren’t reflected in the final score of this game.
